New Art Work “Cascade”
Without a doubt, this new art work, Cascade is a compelling exploration of texture and movement, unfolding across an 11 by 14-inch mixed media paper. I really like the rich tactile energy of this painting. While creating, I felt excitement. Mostly, like being in touch with a waterfall, as I remembered it.
The Process
I painted earthy browns, ochres, and greys form a grounded base, punctuated by soft accents of muted blue and white. They breathe light into the composition. Building thick layers of acrylic and collage elements indicates intricate terrain. Rough, uneven surfaces suggest natural processes at work. I like the erosion and weathering effect; the slow transformation of stone is evident here.
Drawing your attention to the heart of the piece, a lighter zone of white and silver-gray, by comparison, contrasted against the darker, subdued edges creates a focal point. In creating this piece, I realized the interplay of light and shadow conveys a sense of flow reminiscent of cascading water.
Solid forms seem to dissolve and shift. The intended layered textures invite close attention, revealing subtle variations and intricate details that reward careful viewing; but it is much better viewed in person. Here are some close-ups.

In Any Case
Mostly, this painting can equally be felt and seen. Cascade, evokes the quiet power of nature’s cycles. It illustrates how force and time shape and reshape the world’s surfaces in fluid, unpredictable ways. The piece feels simultaneously grounded and dynamic, intimate in its complexity yet expansive. Lastly, we can imagine the natural phenomena which exists beyond the frame.
In any event, I thoroughly enjoyed creating this art, though it is out of the scope of other work I have created. All things considered, I am enjoying experimenting and working toward expanding my horizons.
