Happy Solstice

Happy Solstice~Merry Christmas~Happy Holidays and welcome to the age of Aquarius. Who ever thought we would have made it this far?

ice-fog

We have had a a lot of icy fog and hoar frost this year and it is beautiful. Occasionally the sun breaks through.

And though I would like to be out taking more pictures, however other things have taken priority.

At the moment it seems I am going from deadline to deadline, pacing myself and somehow it all gets done. Everything I need comes to me, miraculously.

I am getting bits and pieces of time in the studio in an attempt to finish some work. This is one of several oils I did late this summer, all 12 X 16. They are almost dry, still a bit wet in the darker areas.

A couple of weeks ago, I auditioned for a band and the experience was great. I felt good about the energy I took there, and was relaxed and calm. Feeling good about being in my element though it had been a long time and an opportunity to perform. It did not turn out to be the right situation but it feels like a bridge. A couple more situations are just on the horizon.

Currently I am writing new music, on piano mostly. My goal is to create an album, a CD, and once I have done that I will find a way to record it.

So I am carrying my notebook with me everywhere, as I always did before. The music is coming quicker than the lyrics. That has not always been the case. Creative thoughts must incubate before we can birth them. Much growth has been taking place under the surface.

I am spending this time to set intentions for the New Year, and to prioritize. Included in the repertoire will be lots of art, music, web design and writing. I am re-branding myself to integrate all that I do, and am determined that will provide me a way to sustain myself. In the meantime, let’s set an intention to make 2013 the best year ever!

Abstractive Reality

Mystic ForestThe weekend is upon us and what it holds is written in the stars. I have spent the week submitting resumes and I have put out well over one hundred.

My multi-diversity is looking for it’s special niche and that cannot be far away.

Aligning myself with the higher plan, I do the footwork, the flow allows me to merge with the stream. So now it is time to open to some fun-perhaps painting- and let the flow happen.

Here are the other two abstracts I did and they are at ArtPoint in the members show. Now here’s hoping I can get down to the other paintings I have planned in my mind. Ideas are never in short supply around here. Having the resources to carry them out has been a challenge at times. Somehow I keep plugging forward.

VescusThe colors I have used in this abstract would be normally out character for me. Yet the purpose of the exercise was to experiment while being unconcerned about the outcome.

I was excited to learn the Dalai Lama is coming to Calgary, but my hopes were quickly dashed when I discovered the cheapest ticket to hear him speak was $475. The Dalai Lama draws the largest crowd of any spiritual leader.

Ah well, perhaps I will experience a windfall. The upside is just having his energy here in the city will likely raise the vibration. The thing that is raising my vibration at the moment is the plus 7C balmy temperature! And just in time for the weekend. Have a good one!

Moments Like These

River Winter Dusk

Hello everyone, thanks to all for your support. I have had some response to my previous post, and am presently following some leads.

Something is sure to come through in the very near future.Your support means a lot.

Hope you like this river picture. I froze my touche off getting this photo. It is only once or twice every winter that the mist rises off the icy river, so I couldn’t resist driving around in circles looking for the perfect spot, which turned out to be Princess Island Park. The river was about a seven minute walk from the car.

Mesmerized by the beauty of my surroundings, I had only snapped about four pictures when the memory card flashed it was full. Frozen fingers could only see how to delete the whole bunch, not just the previously downloaded ones.

I trekked back, to get the spare card in the car, briefly warmed up, then back to the river. I was not dressed for cold weather and unaware it was -30C with the wind chill, but I think it was worth it. There is another I took that day where you can see the mist rising. So it’s moments like these we live for, right?

Show Time

Radiance Sisters TrioIt is snowing here again. Just thought I would say hello before I go off to paint. Here we are: the Radiance Sisters, Tracy, Sarah, and I.

We are the ones organizing and promoting the Lucinda Drayton Concert.

Haven’t had a moment to spare, as we have been laying down the foundation, the grid for a successful concert to come.

A workshop with Lucinda is in the works as well. And … we launched the website, and we had our first ticket sales the same day! The venue holds 1000 so we are off to a grand start. We made a short trek to the mountains was had on Friday for a special birthday. No time for another fabulous soak though, maybe next time.

Spring Starts & Stops

Spring Starts & Stops

Where oh where have I been? Four paintings almost finished. An incredibly busy time for me, involving one project or another. Connecting to the source is my primary focus at the moment, knowing that when I am connected to the source anything is possible. I merely have to ground the energy in order to achieve a higher level of consciousness.

spring sunThe next step is removing self seeking from the menu. Most times people ask-what is in it for me? When less focus is placed on that we receive all that we need effortlessly. It is precisely when we do not focus on what we can “get” out of a situation that we are surprised by how well things turn out. Self seeking interupts the natural flow of energies, and the connection with the source.

Dreammaster RealmThis is “Dreammaster Realm”, the fabulous artwork is the work of
Visionary Artist Erial Ali who has agreed to let us use his image for the theme of this gathering. Have a sneak peek at the website I’ve built for ticket sales to the concert we are planning here.
This event promises to be more than a concert. A performance by Lucinda Drayton involves more than music. She has a gift for creating a transformatory experience, so we believe the evening will be a blessing for all who can attend. The venue is the fabulous 100 year old church, Knox United, used frequently for concerts. If you are going to be in Calgary on May 27, 2007 it would be worth your while to include yourself in this event. We would love for you to join us! Contact me if you need further information.

Before heading off to paint, I shall leave you with the following thought to ponder:

“Is what you are doing right now in your life supporting who you are?”

Hope everyone is having a stellar weekend!

Where the Air is Thin

Where the Air is Thin

Sometimes I wonder if the lack of oxygen, living at this high altitude in Calgary has an effect on all this craziness I have been experiencing lately. [Elevation:1048 M/ 51° 2′ 42″ N/ 114° 3′ 26″ W] I am almost sure things will settle soon. My mission today was to attempt making muffins for the first time in two years.

tea muffinsI had always baked, until I moved to this altitude. Now even the tried and true recipes fail. Well they are not perfect looking but they do taste good. No-fat, semi-flat banana, bitter orange peels (found in Mediterranean groceries), with chunks of fresh apple. I also had enough batter to make a loaf. SO if you are in the neighbourhood … stop by for a taste of muffins, tea and sympathy.

chefAll this while the vegetarian chili simmered away in the crock pot. Disaster struck when I burned the bottom of the rice pot, yet salvaged the top half of the rice. Computers should be off limits while cooking. I had set a timer, but ignored it, much like I ignore the alarm clock on the mornings when I do not want to get up. In the evening when my alarm goes off, I know I am late for work. My mission for tomorrow is to get those PJ’s out of the washer. With any luck, I will be back at the easel. 😉

Gardening and Such

Gardening and Such

garden toolsGardening is therapy. I love the smell of fresh dark earth, after a rain, as I inspect seedlings for any sign of growth. When I am in the garden, time does not exist. Fortunate to live in a quiet neighborhood, conscious only of my connection with nature, gardening is like a form of meditation. As an artist, I find being in touch with the natural rhythms of nature crucial to my creativity.

In the paper towel, I am soaking morning glory seeds, which shall go into the ground tomorrow. I have planted many things already, and some are sprouting. Sometimes I dry flowers with my microwave dryer from Lee Valley Tools, which is a wonderful place for all sorts of unique items for home and garden. I like to follow the Farmer’s Almanac, as a guideline for planting.

Gardening in the foothills presents it’s own special challenges. Sometimes the length of time between frosts can be as few as ninety days, or we may see as many as 150 frost free days. Our altitude is approximately 1050 meters or 3500 feet above sea level. Combine that with dry Chinook winds, semi arid climate, and our proximity to the mountains, you have a shorter growing season. Yet with our long days of light, rapid growth is seen. Twilight lasts until well after 10pm.

My herb garden, and pots will be next, just as soon as I get some bedding plants. I have some herbs up already, which were planted last year. Then in the warm heat of summer, I shall sit on my patio, with a good book, and a huge glass of homemade lemonade, to enjoy the fruits of my efforts. Now that’s heaven!
